Autumn Wedding Styled Photo Shoot at Wotton House in the Surrey Hills

4 April 2020

Here’s a fresh and colourful shoot that I took part in last autumn. You know how much I love to embrace the seasons in my work, and actually autumn is my favourite season of all. So as a co-planner on this shoot, it was lovely to be able to bring in some of my ideas and collaborate with everyone.

Autumn colours in the flowers and fruit in this elegant wedding tablescape at Wotton House, Dorking, Surrey

For me, autumn evokes such strong memories and sensations. It’s a time of abundance and the time of year where nature offers up her fruits and seeds to us all. As the days shorten and the sun hangs lower in the sky, ripe fruit are burgeoning on the tree branches, the time to harvest the earth’s treasures has arrived.

I love it when you’re on the cusp of the season change, you can almost taste the spice in the air during this time of transformation – it’s so magical. To capture this feeling of the season, lots of ripe fruit were incorporated into the styling for the tablescape and the flatlays, as well as the cake.

We used warm metals like gold and brass to evoke the warmth of the season and the autumnal sun. The colour palette had warm yellows and deep teal to contrast against the pops of coral and blush. And the flowers were all seasonal and all British grown. We added a depth to the images with rich velvet and suede textures as well as luscious linens and ribbons.

Here’s the mood board and colour palette that we were all working from to create our individual pieces that came together to tell this beautiful love story. A story of two lovers whose pen pal relationship, that spanned the Atlantic ocean, became a much deeper love. Their love letter writing formed the backdrop to our story telling and Mathilda created beautiful hand calligraphed letters and envelopes.

I’m going to let the rest of the images do the talking and leave you to be inspired by the mood and the atmosphere.
